From his interest in sound phenomena and harmonics Rabe was able to make one of the most deep, moving pieces of sustained sound generated in this formative era of minimalist electronic composition. The peculiar and surprising effect of Folke Rabe ’s What?? is a kind of ground luminosity, a kind of homeliness that it carries you into, transforms you into; a kind of self-realization in the All, if you’re inclined towards feelings like that, and this purely through the playing display of sounding timbres.
